I do not understand why they expect you to argue for a position in an undergraduate paper. Developing cogent arguments takes time. One cannot expect four years of basic study to lead to a fruitition of analysis.
Teachers should be contented by a grasp of the salient philosophical issues at hand, and award bonus marks for knowing the differences between the four types of commas. That should be enough.
