There is nothing natural about our ambitions. We choose them; they do not choose us. We do not get a 'calling' to do such-and-such any more than we get a 'calling' to fall in love with so-and-so. And while it is true that certain factors external to us influence our dispositions to act in certain ways, these factors do not compel us to do anything. They only persuade.
