I am unsure why people think they can discern their true selves by being alone, vacationing on new continents or both. Make no mistake: I have jumped through these hoops, too. I was just never arrogant enough to think that these luxuries -- those afforded by my Western affluence -- would be sufficient to instigate an awakening.
